Fall at Shomaisou: Puppy Updates, Lux’s Show Debut, and Sunni’s Upcoming Adventures

It’s a busy fall at Shomaisou Shiba Inu! We have new puppies to introduce, Lux preparing for his first shows, and Sunni heading to Pennsylvania and Florida with expert handler Deanna Rotkowski.

We’ve also added new plugins to our blog at shibas.dog to automatically share links to new posts across some of our social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram. These updates will make it easier to follow our dogs and puppies, with the full stories, litter records, and photo albums available through our website.

Meet Our Fall Litters

Picasso × Prada — A Litter of Boys at Timberwood Paws

We’re excited about the Picasso × Prada litter of boys at Timberwood Paws!

Prada, CH Gaylord’s Timberwood Kokana Prada, was bred by Timberwood Paws and Shomaisou Shiba Inu. Watching her contribute to the next generation is especially rewarding.

Collaboration between preservation breeders brings together knowledge of pedigrees, health, temperament, and the strengths of individual dogs. These relationships help us make thoughtful breeding decisions and follow our family lines across generations.

Visit Timberwood Paws to learn more about Prada, their breeding program, and her boys.

Picasso × Oami — Two Little Girls

Our Picasso × Oami Bravo litter, born October 14, 2026, includes two girls.

These early weeks are filled with close observation, careful recordkeeping, and attention to Oami and her puppies. As the girls grow, we look forward to sharing their first explorations and the personalities that gradually emerge.

Follow their development:

Kami × Stella — The Kimi Legacy Litter

Our Kami × Stella Alpha litter arrived October 15, 2026, in Mountain View, Wyoming, with three boys and one girl: two red boys, one black-and-tan boy, and one red girl.

Their theme, “The Kimi Legacy,” honors our foundation female, GCH CH Morningstar-Gaylord No Kinshu Go Sho Mai Sou, known as Kimi. This pairing brings together descendants through two branches of her family, making these puppies particularly meaningful to our program.

Their names celebrate those family connections: Legacy, Hank, Elvis, and Echo. We’re looking forward to watching this next generation develop.

Follow their progress:

Kami × Chupa — Tricks, Treats & Tiny Feet

Chupa gave us a Halloween to remember! Our Kami × Chupa Echo litter was born October 31, 2026, in New Baden, Illinois.

The litter includes three boys and one girl:

  • One red boy
  • Two black-and-tan boys
  • One black-and-tan girl

Their theme, “Tricks, Treats & Tiny Feet,” suits these Halloween arrivals perfectly. Their temporary names—Snickers, Twix, Tootsie, and Rolo—add a little sweetness to their story.

For now, their days revolve around nursing, sleeping, and growing while we closely monitor Chupa and her newborns. Soon enough, those tiny feet will begin exploring!

The Work Behind Every Shomaisou Puppy

As preservation breeders, we plan each generation with the future of the Shiba Inu in mind. Our goal is to preserve breed type, sound structure, health, and the distinctive character that makes living with a Shiba such a memorable experience.

That work begins before breeding. We study pedigrees, evaluate prospective parents, and consider how their strengths and weaknesses may complement one another. Health screening includes hips, patellas, and eyes, along with DNA testing to help inform breeding decisions. Staying in touch with our puppy families also helps us understand how our dogs develop throughout their lives.

Once puppies arrive, our focus expands to their physical and behavioral development. Our approach incorporates Puppy Culture, Early Neurological Stimulation, Early Scent Introduction, and carefully planned, age-appropriate enrichment. Gentle handling and introductions to new sounds, surfaces, people, and experiences help prepare puppies for the world they will eventually join.

At approximately five weeks, our puppies move to the Grand Rapids, Michigan, area for Puppy Preschool, continuing through approximately eight weeks. This period provides structured opportunities to explore, learn, and build confidence.

At approximately eight weeks, we evaluate each puppy’s structure, temperament, and development before making placement offers. We also spend time learning about prospective families—their experience, daily routines, expectations, and plans for their dog.

Our placements are based on the needs of each puppy and the suitability of each home. We do not take deposits to establish a place in line. Our responsibility continues after placement through education, guidance, and ongoing support for our puppy families.
